It is used to select the destination path automatically.

  • Router >
  • Router >enable
  • Router(config)# conf t
  • Router(config)# int e0   (or fa 0/0 it change with router model)
  • Router(config_if)# ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0 (Default Gateway)
  • Router(config_if)# no shut
  • Router(config_if)# exit
  • Router# conf terminal
  • Router(config)# int s0
  • Router(config_if)# ip add 1.1.1.1 255.0.0.0  serial port IP
  • Router(config_if)# no shut
  • Router(config_if)# clock rate 64000 (bandwidth of line)
  • Router(config_if)# exit
  • Router(config)# ip route 0.0.0.0  0.0.0.0  1.1.1.2 (path)
  • Router(config)# exit
  • Now for other router do the following configuration
  • Router# conf terminal
  • Router(config)# int e0 or fa 0/0
  • Router(config_if)# ip add 192.168.20.10 255.255.255.0 (default gateway)
  • Router(config_if)# no shut
  • Router(config_if)# int s0
  • Router(config_if)# ip add 1.1.1.2 255.0.0.0
  • Router(config_if)# no shut
  • Router(config_if)# clock rate 64000
  • Router(config_if)# exit
  • Router(config)# ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 1.1.1.2
  • Router(config)# exit
  • Router#
